Kit Widdows
Kit Widdows, the Master of St Thomas' Church in the Haymarket,
Newcastle, was born on 10 September, 1946, and died suddenly on
December 8th, 2007, while teaching the Breathing
Space group. We would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of
love and appreciation for Kit's life, and of compassion and support
for the family.
Among many other treasures, Kit left us Fourth Witness, his first book.
He was working on a further chapter in this story, called Four Pillars.
A tribute to Kit has been published by the Halifax
Courier.
Funeral and Thanksgiving Service
Kit's funeral was on Tuesday, December 18th. As promised, here are
the order of service, the readings, and the address given by Heather and
Dominic Widdows..
Kit's family would like to thank everyone who came to the funeral and
showed such honour to Kit's memory. We would especially like to thank
the following people:
-
The Rev'd Kevin Hunt, who led the service, celebrated the Eucharist,
and spent so much time in loving preparation with the family.
-
The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, who lead the civic procession and gave a
stirring introduction to the service.
-
Ian Humpries and all the staff at the Civic Centre, who gave us the
banquetting hall and made all of us such welcome guests of the City of
Newcastle. The honour you did us was rare indeed, the compassion with
which is was offered will be with us always.
-
As well as Kevin and the Lord Mayor, we'd like to thank those who took
part in the service: John Pearson, Ruth Parry, David Belcher, Geoff
Rossmann, the Bishops.
-
The musicians: Ian, Cath, Jane, Ken, Clay, Martin.
-
Pauline and John Pearson and the folks at the Civic Centre, for
arranging such a wonderful display of Kit's pictures and the different
things he worked on.
-
The funeral home, for making Kit's stay so peaceful and graceful.
-
The George Cross Island Association and British Legion standard bearers.
-
The Wardens and people of St Thomas'.
-
Everyone who contributed memories for the grandchildren and the memorial book.
Memorial fund donations are still being made through St Thomas'
Church and Christian Aid. Never fear that you've missed the boat!
